The ARIA move to the Hordern pavilion

The annual ARIA Awards will move to a new home in Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion this year, which organizers say demonstrates their commitment to live music after holding ceremonies without an audience during pandemic restrictions.

It takes the home gig for the 36th Australian Music Industry Awards night after two tumultuous years, during which artists lost revenue, performances were canceled and local venues closed.

The ARIAs were broadcast live from Taronga Zoo last year but had been held at the Star since 2013. In the past hosting duties have traveled between venues such as Sydney Entertainment Centre, Qudos Bank Arena , the Capitol Theater and the Opera House. .

The past two years of live-streamed awards shows have been widely received as lackluster without an in-person crowd. The 2021 event was also online only – limited to YouTube and Nine’s 9Now streaming service – which led to a limited audience and tarnished the prestige of the event.

Organizers touted the new venue as a celebration of live music and a return to the vibrant energy of previous years, as the awards return to a live audience and large-scale broadcast format.

“In a year that has seen so many challenges, we want to bring the joy of music back to fans, blast fashion, fun and excitement from the red carpet, and celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our artists in a true musical style,” said Annabelle Herd, CEO of ARIA.

“I can’t think of a better place to do that than a venue as steeped in musical DNA as the Hordern.”

In making the announcement on Sunday, the organization said the move demonstrated its commitment to Australian music and the live scene. He highlighted the venue’s historic legacy of hosting both top Australian and international artists since it opened in 1924.

Personalities who have performed at Moore Park include David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Marley, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Silverchair, Crowded House, INXS, Midnight Oil and the Arctic Monkeys. More recent stars include Billie Eilish, The Kid Laroi, Troye Sivan, Flume, Thelma Plum and the DMAs.
